problems with wikia - Guild Wars Forums

ATM, i'm connecting from Shanghai, China but apparently GW Wikia or PvxWikia never seem to work for me. now that they changed PvXWiki to PvXWikia, i can't seem to go there anymore. help would be appreciated. thanks

Can you get to any Wikia site? If not it is probably blocked by your ISP in China.

You could try the official wiki: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page

Yeah, there's a word for it that I can't remember, but uh, all of the wiki pages are blocked in China.

Wiki works fine, the only problem is with Wikia. e.g. Guild Wars Wikia or PvXWikia

It is because you are in China. Complain to your government.

I don't feel any particular urge to be governed but it's not exactly easy to opt out of it either. In this case, the government in question is more for the people (collective) than the people (individual) but it's a sliding scale without an objectively definable optimal point. Stop paying taxes and see how swiftly your own government forces the good of the collective over the good of an individual ...

Problem there is they've hosted the instructions to access their site... on their site. So people that don't have access to Wikia.com won't be able to read them.

I was talking specifically how China blocks lots of free speech/information trade/political websites, that is NOT in the interest of the people there. And on the issue of taxes, like those aren't abused. I doubt the collective would want them anyways.

Information on JAP proxy which has a huge list of proxy servers and one could easily setup a PEERING point within India too if one wishes to.

Using TOR to bypass the block

By Using Google Web Accelerator

Download and install Google Web accelreator and bypass the BAN. When using GWA, you actually access the blogspot pages from the Google Proxy server, where they are cached and not directly from the blogspot server.

Via RSS Readers

Search and find a RSS reader that you like. You can get applications as well as online readers.
You will need to know the RSS feed URI for the blog that you are trying to reach. Some RSS readers uto-search for feeds if you enter the blog's URI. You can use a search engine again.
Any decent RSS reader will come with instructions and Help files.
Some RSS readers:
- Google Reader in https.
- The Opera browser has an in-built RSS reader
- Bloglines
- Feedburner

Use Coral Cache Servers

Coral Cache Servers can be used to view any static webpages and blogs. Just add "nyud.net:8080" to the domain name. For example, if you want to visit http://mumbaihelp.blogspot.com use http://mumbaihelp.blogspot.com.nyud.net:8080 . If you want to visit http://mumbaihelp.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_mumbaihelp_archive.html then use http://mumbaihelp.blogspot.com.nyud....p_archive.html

For sites blocked by domain names

Using google translate, e.g., if the blog is "blogyouwanttoread.blogspot.com", then use

http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=blogyouwanttoread.blogs pot.com

or try http://my.opera.com/libertyfreedomtr...S%20BLOG%20BAN
